There are so many things that make the community of Anthony wonderfully distinctive. Firstly, Anthony is sometimes lovingly referred to as “the best little town in two states”. As a result of the Gadsden Purchase in 1853, Anthony is situated in southern New Mexico right on the New Mexico-Texas border. In fact, an invisible state line passes through the town!

The community of Anthony is part of Dona Ana County and is situated at the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains, halfway between Las Cruces to the north, and El Paso, Texas, to the south. With unique surrounding scenery, Anthony is a hidden gem in the desert nestled between the historic Rio Grande and the jagged Franklin Mountains. The population of Anthony is approximately 9,000 people.

Another distinctive point about Anthony is that it is known as the ”Leap Year Capital of the World”. An interesting story, a resident started the only worldwide leap year birthday club. Now boasting thousands of members, Anthony hosts raucous and wildly popular celebrations every leap year. Other attractions of Anthony include the scenic El Camino Real.

Considered to have some of the most fertile land in the state, agriculture has long been the backbone of Anthony’s economy. Crops grown include cotton, pecan, onions, lettuce, alfalfa, and grape vineyards.
