Lovington Real Estate Information Located in southeastern region in the “Enchantment State” of New Mexico, the City of Lovington is a community embodying progress, diversity, and American values – it is home to where the heart is, at least to its near 10,000 residents.
The county seat of Lea County, Lovington is located about 20 miles west of the Texas state line. Hobbs, the largest city in Lea County, is 23 miles southeast from Hobbs. Other relatively large cities close to Hobbs are the Texan cities of Lubbock (90 miles northeast) and Midland (100 miles southeast), and the mystical and mysterious UFO-associated community of Roswell is found 80 miles northwest.
Lovington was first established at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. The early settlers, the Brothers Love (Robert Florence Love and James B. Love) were influential members of this new community setting up business and developing a community administration. In honor, the community was named after these brothers. Cattle and ranching activities ruled the day until oil was discovered in the area. Today, these industries are still going strong.
