There are many different reasons that people decide to move to New Mexico. One of the most popular is golf. That’s right, you think that I am joking but most retired people these days are very keen on staying as active as they can, and while many different high-impact sports are too dangerous for them, golf is the perfect mix of competition, exercise and relaxation that they need. And New Mexico has some of the best golf in the Unites States. And if you look at all of the places that have great golf in New Mexico, Raton is right at the top of the list.

Another great thing about the golf in Raton is that it is not that expensive. Many of the people out east that I know who have come out here to try the golf marvel at how easy it is to play out here, there are few crowded courses and again it is very cheap. This has everything to do with the fact that there is just so much land out here. You can drive for miles without seeing another soul…so of course, why not put a golf course on this land.

Another effect that this has had on the state, is that all this extra land has led to lots of easy cheap houses. You can by a very big home here with a large yard for a fraction of the cost of a house the same size elsewhere in the country. And the best part is you can take all of that money you have saved and buy a pool so you can cool off in the hot New Mexico sun.
