Binghamton, New York

This city's economic development success is not limited to downtown, but is taking place citywide as businesses continue to take advantage of the positive economic momentum that has developed and the increased customer base that has been generated as a result.

The city's officials have worked over the years to build Binghamton parks into the recreational crown jewels they are today. Since 1993 the city has invested more than $2 million in upgrading park equipment, making each one handicapped accessible and adding new features, such as the walking paths at Recreation Park and enclosing the Carousel. Also every little league field now has new lighting to allow activities to continue after dusk.

Developers large and small are investing in Binghamton's downtown and neighborhood business districts. Crime low here, aging infrastructure is being repaired, the finances are sound and Binghamton continues to be a safe, affordable and livable community. These are the barometers that should be used to measure the state of any city.
