Welcome to the “bright town” of Brighton, New York. Established in 1814, Brighton is one of the oldest towns in Monroe County. Brighton is located in Western New York, bordering the City of Rochester to its north and the Genesee River to its west. The population of the town is approximately 35,000.

Named for Brighton, England, the Town of Brighton was first settled about 1790. Until the 20th century, it remained a farming community. Early businesses included brick-making and nurseries.

Brighton progressed and developed into a diverse suburban residential community with strong neighborhoods, elegant homes, elaborate gardens and landscaped subdivisions.

For the past generation, Brighton has been recognized as one of America’s most attractive residential towns. Notable leaders in business, industry, education, government and the arts – both past and present – reside here.

The town is governed by an elected town council, consisting of a supervisor and four town council members. The supervisor is elected to a two-year term. The council members serve four-year terms.
