Chemung County Real Estate Information Located in southern tier of western New York at the south of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region lies historic Chemung County. The largely rural Chemung County has a population of approximately 99,000 people. Prominent communities within its boundaries include Elmira (the county seat), Ashland, Southport, Big Flats, Horsehead, and Van Etten.
Although Chemung County may resemble a sleepy rural area, the county has been sucessfully diversifying its industry to solidify its already strong economy. Other cultural attractions include the Arnot Art Center, National Soaring Museum, Newtown Battlefield & Sullivan's Monument, and the Clemens Center.
Surrounded by gorgeous scenery including closeby Finger Lakes, Catskill Park, and Lake Ontario, there is plenty of recreational attractions in Chemung County. Some sites include Tanglewood Nature Center, and Harris Hill Park.
