Massapequa Real Estate Information Massapequa is an incorporated village of New York, located on the picturesque landscape of Long Island. One particular tribed related to the northern Algonquins was the Marsapeague. This tribe's name meant 'great water land' and aptly reflected the landscape on long Island. In 1658, the Marsapeague chief made a friendly deal with European settlers for the deed to the Marsapeague meadowlands that would (centuries down the road) become the modern Massapequa Park.
Early settlements were sparse until the first steam train arrived on the rail extension in 1868. Leading up to the 1920's, there were only about 20 homes in the area. Some were even 'prefabs' sold through the Sears catalogue!
It wasn't until 1927 that three young land speculators began ferrying in people through the rail line to visit the grounds. Through various improvements to the immediate area around the rail station, Brady, Cryan, and Colleran managed to sell $131,000 worth of new homes. Over the next 10 years, a large number of beuatiful homes were built in the area. In 1931, Massapequa Park was incorporated as a Village.
As a construction boom fueled by an urban exodus from New York hit Long Island, Massapequa Park is now a suburban enclave of 6,000 with some 300 retail stores.
