Situated on the midsouthern shore of Long Island, the Town of Shirley is located in Suffolk County, New York, and is part of the Nassau-Suffolk Metropolitan area. The town was named after the lengendary developer, Walter Shirley. The town had a total population of approximately 27,000 people.

Primarily a residential community where most of the town's residents make the daily commute to the larger workplace of Nassau-Suffolk Metro Area, or even further to New York City, Shirley still provides a welcoming, pro-business environment for many entrepeneaurs and large corporations. The main employers within the city are industries related to educational,health and social services, retail trade, and construction.

Shirley is home to many excellent schools that are highly regarded by the state. The Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Library also has an excellent reputation, serving an area of 46,000 residents. The library has an extensive collection of books, periodicals, and music.

Many recreational opportunities are available with close access to Long Island Sound and Hampton Beaches. Links at Shirley offers an 18-hole championship course that plays more than 7,000 yards from the back tees and an 18-hole, par-3 course of outstanding quality that is lighted for night play.

Like anywhere on Long Island, real estate is a hot commodity, but Shirley stands out with its vibrant community with strong civic pride.
