West Babylon Real Estate Information While this isn't the Babylon of old, it's certainly a Babylon for the new ages! West Babylon is situated midway up Long Island, about 50 miles from New York City. Its 44,000 people live in an area some 7 miles square. Though not a city, it is officially designated as a hamlet of the Town of Babylon.
This hamlet is pretty dense, with about 5,600 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the hamlet is 80% White, 10% African-American, 2% Asian, and 7% Hispanic. The average age is 36 years, while the average household income is $61,00.
There isn't a whole lot happening in West Babylon. It does feature a School District with several elementary, middle, and high schools.
Despite being a really big hamlet, it has managed to maintain a lot of its historical roots. It was once a property used to cultivate tulips, but is now a major player in the Town of Babylon.
It community spirit is perhaps best exemplified by the numerous volunteer groups like the Lions Club, Little East Neck Merchants, Taxpayer's Association, Beautification Society, and PTA. To celebarte their rich past, residents came together to build a windmill in their hamlet.
