Fort Bragg is a famous military base in North Carolina situated on the outkirts of Fayetteville. It's home to America's only airborne corps and airbone division, the "Green Berets" of the Special Operations Command, and the largest Army Support command. In additino, the 82nd airborne makes about 100,000 parachute jumps each year at the base.

Make no mistake, this is one big military installation that houses 43,000 military personnel and approxmiately 8,000 civillians. It's a major economic, employment, and security source for the entire region. With about 160,000 acres of land with about a quarter of that reserved for work, living, and play areas. It's like a compact major city, with 20 million square feet in office buildings, 11 shopping centers, 30 restaurants, 11 miles of railroad, a major hospital, 8 schools, 11 churchs, 183 recreational facilities, and about 5,000 households! Not too shabby for a military base!

To the economy, Fort Bragg means $4.1 billion in revenue for local communities. The soldiers and civillians working there purchase over $2 billion on retail products in the surrounding region.

While you can't readily move in to Fort Bragg without the proper clearance, it's a fine place to live and perhaps one of the safest spots in America!
