Located in the state of North Carolina, the city of Gastonia is the county seat of Gaston County. Located in the heart of the Piedmont section of North Carolina, approximately 22 miles west of Charlotte, it is the second largest City in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill. Gastonia has a population nearing 70,000.

Since its inception as a city in 1877, Gastonia had changed its focus from agriculture to what would become one of the greatest centers for textile production in the world. While the textile industry still dominates today, the city has a developed a broad industrial, office and commercial base.

Gastonia houses the Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, which includes nature trails leading to a Catawba Indian village and an 18th-century back country farm. The Gaston County Museum of Art and History includes exhibits of period furnishings and the workings of the early textile industry. Nearby Kings Mountain National Military Park is the site of a major battle between backwoodsmen and British forces in September of 1780.
