Greensboro Real Estate Information Greensboro is the third largest city in North Carolina with a population of 223,891. It's centrally located at the junction of I-85 and I-40 in the Piedmont area. Originally called "Greensborough" in 1808, it was later shorted to Greensboro as many other such borough-suffixed cities are.
The city's name originates from the great Major General Nathanael Greene. He headed the American forces at the Battle of Guilford Court House in March 1781. Though that particular battle was lost, it was instrumental to the final revolutionary victory at Yorktown over the British in October 1781.
Greensboro isn't historically important just for its part in the Revolutionary War. In 1960, it was the scene for a massive sit-in protest at Woolworth's lunch counter. It began innocently as four blacks were denied service. Soon, hundreds had joined the protest that would last for months. This would be the spark in the powder keg that would lead to similar protests across the South. Woolworth's would eventually fold under the pressure.
Though once a scene for many tense exchanges, Greensboro is now home to many beautiful golf courses, fine art museums, and other fine cultural institutions. If you're thinking of moving to Greensboro there are many great places to settle down.
