Mount Holly Real Estate Information One of North Carolina’s progressive cities, Mount Holly has displayed remarkable resiliency and adaptability in its past to overcome economic hardships and flourish in the face of adversity. A credit to the community’s leaders, planners, and developers, Mount Holly was once an epicenter of the lucrative textile industry during the early 20th century. However, over the last 25 years has seen a dramatic decline of that industry with many of the city’s top employers relocating or becoming bankrupt. This were tough times for the citizens of Mount Holly.
With a shift in plan, Mount Holly has reestablished itself by diversifying its economic base. Although textiles remain an important industry here, manufacturing is growing into prominence, as is retail-trade, with many businesses allured by the attractiveness of Mount Holly’s downtown. It also helped that Mount Holly is close to the booming metropolis of Charlotte, which has aided many of Mount Holly’s residents with its many opportunities.
Mount Holly is located in the Southern Piedmont area in the “Tar Heel State” of North Carolina in northeast Gaston County. Situated on the western banks of the Catawba River and adjacent to Mountain Island Lake, Mount Holly is a scenic small city, which adds to its overall charm. The city is located just 10 miles from Gastonia, to the west, and Charlotte, to the east, along the I-85.
