The Village of Pinehurst is nestled in the North Carolinian Sand Hills in the state’s south-central region in Moore County where impressive pine tree forests impressive tower over the community to create a unique aesthetic that is incomparable to anywhere else. The community began as a resort destination when James Walker Tufts, who had purchased this large parcel of land, contacted Frederick Law Olmstead, the designer of Central Park, to create a first class resort. Known as the birthplace of American golf, Pinehurst is a mecca for golf enthusiasts. The village was the birthplace of Donald Ross, the creator and innovator of golf course design and architecture. It was Ross who created Pinehurst Number 2 Golf Course, considered one of the finest courses in the world.
