Ya'll remember the 1960's sitcom, "The Andy Griffith Show"? You bet you do. Ya'll remember Aunt Bee? You know that uppity ole' lady with the heart of gold! Of course you do. Did you know the actress that played that part was Frances Bavier! It is said that Bavier had significant input in fashioning the show's setting of Mayberry, North Carolina after her own hometown, Siler City, North Carolina. After all, both places represented the ideals and aesthetic of friendly small hometown America.

Established in the charter in 1887, the Town of Siler City (not yet incorporated as a city) is the largest town in Chatham County in central North Carolina with a population of approximately 7,100 people. The city is positioned along State Highway 421, which when headed eastward about 55 miles will bring you to the state capitol of Raleigh. If you take the 421 the other direction northwest for about 40 miles, it will bring you to the City of Greensboro. Tack on another 15 miles and you'll find yourself in Winston-Salem.

Siler City's strategic position has made it an attractive place for many businesses who can benefit from the community's pro-business environment. The town continues upgrade its amenities, expanding its raw water reservoir capacity by renovating its reservoir, and construting a new Police Department building. Indeed, Siler City is prepared to take off!
