Manufacturing is the main industry found in St. Stephens and surrounding area, particularly furniture manufacturing. When Americans (the knowledgeable ones) think about furniture they think of the City of Hickory, which is also known as the “Furniture Manufacturing Capital of the World”. A leading furniture manufacturing center, approximately 50-percent of the country’s furniture was manufactured in and around Hickory.
