Several major higher education establishments are based in this city including: Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina School of the Arts, and Salem Academy and College.

Important industries here include Tobacco, with R.J. Reynolds calling Winston-Salem its home. Another big American favorite is the Krispy Kreme corporation!

Recently, Winston-Salem was honored with itsinclusion on the list of America's Most Livable Communities by an organization called Partners for Livable Cities. It is a prestigious title that its residents have worked very hard for.

The city broke ground in the Arts with the inception of the nation's first arts council. It also sports the nation's highest per capita in contributions to the arts.

Winston-Salem has the lowest cost of living in the Carolinas, and is among the top 20 in quality of life. Just 90 mintues away are the big cities of Raleigh and Charlotte. Connected through the interstate system is Washington DC and Atlanta.
