Named after explorer, Christopher Columbus, Columbus is the capital city of Ohio, where only the major metropolis of Cleveland and Cincinnati is larger than its population of almost one million strong.

Columbus is known for its entrepreneurial spirit and economic vitality. In the early settler days, Columbus prospered thanks to its location on the banks of the Scioto River, which attracted money, visitors, and settlers. Even when the rest of Ohio began to suffer industrial decline in the second half of the 20th century, Columbus grew, primarily because its economy is based on state government, education, finance and insurance, and light industry.

The city is home to Ohio State University, which is the state's largest academic institution. The school's Buckeye teams draw fantastic community support. Also, the Bluejackets is Columbus' professional hockey team. Another well-known local institution is the Columbus Zoo, one of the nation's most acclaimed.

Columbus' continued prosperity has made the city a very attractive place to live. Today, it is the headquarters of a number of Fortune 500 companies are here, and many of their executives claim they would not leave the city - even if they were promoted, a sentiment shared by most residents of this city.
