You may not think it but Dayton is one of America’s most rocking cities. With a thriving underground music scene, Dayton has produced some the countries most influential rockers.

Kim Deal, the bass player for the seminal band The Pixies, was born and raised here, and was even a cheerleader for her high school. Then thanks largely to the great indie scene she traded in her pompoms for an electric base guitar and began her life as a musical force.

A couple years before Kim started on her path to stardom, a school teacher from Dayton also traded in his day job to form the band Guided By Voices. While their rise to fame was not as swift or as big as the Pixies, they non the less had an influence on anyone who heard them.

These two people are just a couple examples of how Dayton is more than just another city in Ohio. It is a place where legends are born and where the confines of mid-sized city living can spawn intensity and creativity that can in fact change the world.

So don’t write off Dayton as just another one horse town in the middle of America, it is much more than that. NOt that you have to go out and start playing fierce tunes with an electric guitar or anything.
