Trotwood Real Estate Information In a big nation like America, having a unique name can go a long way! Trotwood, Ohio, enjoys the distinction of being the ONLY Trotwood in America. So mark it on your map, because Trotwood is steamrolling its way through the Dayton, Ohio region and scooping up the best and brightest residents around.
Originally called Higgins Station, the town was an important settlement along the rail line with a tavern, inn, and general store. When Lewis Pfoutz applied for a post office (to save time walking back and forth to Dayton) he found out there was already a Higgins Station somewhere in Ohio. So he renamed the post office after Betsy Trotwood, a character in Charles Dickens' David Copperfield novel! The name stuck and the town has been known as Trotwood since 1866.
The population of 27,000 enjoys a stable town government, great services, and one of the largest regional shopping centers in the county. It's just 6 miles outside of Dayton and 20 minutes to Dayton International Airport.
Schools and parks are a big part of life in Trotwood, making it one of the most desirable communities for new families. No less than six elementary schools, one junior, and one high school serve several thousand students. For parks, there's Sycamore State park nearby that is perfect for bird watchers.
