Enid Real Estate Information The city of Enid, Oklahoma has been described as many things: historic, traditional - even romantic. Enid – also called the place with a funny name – is a city with rich tradition, strong values and great people.
Although there are many stories about how Enid got its name, one of the most plausible is that a railroad official who was fond of Tennyson's named "Idylls of the King" and felt that Geraint's wife, Enid, should be honored by having a city named for her. Others say that a group of cattle drivers who stopped in Government Springs Park to eat turned the "DINE" sign on the cook tent upside down so that it read "ENID."
Today, Enid continues to be the economic, social, medical, political, and educational hub of Northwest Oklahoma. Not only is it the largest retail trade center in the area, serving a customer base of more than 200,000 people throughout Northwest Oklahoma and Southwest Kansas, but its diversified economy continues to provide jobs for the people of the area, and opportunity for future growth.
Oil and agriculture have always been major components of Enid's economy. Enid also has the third largest grain storage capacity in the world. Natural gas reserves are also an important staple in Enid's economy. Far from having a one-dimensional economy, Enid has diversified its industrial base and is the home of both nationally recognized corporations as well as home-grown industries.
