Lawton is a city located in the state of Oklahoma. It is the county seat for Comanche County. The city is home to close to 100,000 residents. Set on the Great Plains, Lawton is an entrance to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge where buffalo, along with longhorn cattle, elk, and deer, roam free.

The town of Lawton was founded on August 6, 1901, when the Kiowa-Comanche-Apache reservation, the last of the Indian lands in the Oklahoma Territory, was opened by the federal government for settlement. Over the past few decades, Lawton has experienced a surge in growth. Much of this is attributed to the establishment of the Field Artillery School at Fort Sill. Throughout the years Lawton and Fort Sill have worked in cooperation to become one of the finest military communities in the country.

Lawton provides plenty of recreational opportunities with the Great Plains as their playground. Hiking, mountain biking, rappelling, fishing, boating, and camping are all popular activities in this land of boulder-strewn mountains and prairie grasslands. Other activities the Old Stone Corral where frontier structures still stand, and the Museum of the Great Plains features living-history programs in the replica of a fur-trading post.
