Located on the outskirts of the grandiose Oklahoma City, "Midwest City" is a dynamic community that responds to the needs of its residents. The name 'Midwest' has roots in the Tinker Air Force Base (because the city is not located in the midwest!). You see, Tinker AFB was once called the Midwest Air Depot. At the time of the city's incorporation, most people still worked and lived on the Air Force base. So it was only natural to name the city after it.

The original portions of Midwest city are referred to as the "Original Mile". This was a master-planned community with gently curving roads that helped restrict speeding. The design of the town included plans for expansion, civic, and commercial needs.

Back in the early 50's, Midwest City was honored as America's "Model City", though today it holds the title of "Tree City USA" and "Certified City". The Air Force base still stands and plays an important role in the community.

Recent projects to improve the city include: an expansion of the Tinker AFB, a new conference center and hotel complex, the development of a new shopping center that encompasses some 93 acres, new housing past the interstate 35, lower utility bills, low crime rate, and a class 2 fire saftey rating!
