Altamont: a great city with a strange name. While less of a city then a hamlet, federal way is as quaint as things get here in Oregon. The city has a bevy of shopping options for those who live and work in the surrounding area, and many of the residents of this city are actively employed in the retail industry.

In the years since incorporation, Altamont has fostered quality commercial and residential growth, and enhanced the quality of life for its residents with infrastructure improvements, a growing job base, diverse recreational opportunities, and new neighborhood parks. The City's Comprehensive Plan looks to Altamont's future and includes plans for a more defined City Center, with enhanced mass transportation and mixed-use commercial and residential development in the City's downtown business area.

The climate, which is heavily influenced by its proximity to the Puget Sound, is relatively mild-temperate. The abundance of moist marine air keeps the temperature mild year round. The Altamont area reaches an average high temperature of 75 degrees in July and an average low temperature of 33 degrees in January. Percipitation ranges from .71 inches in July to 5.7 inches in January.
