Situated on the Willamette River in Clackamus County, Oregon, about 5 miles south of Portland, is the City of Milwaukie, often referred to as the City of Dogwoods. The city was founded in 1847 by Lot Whitcomb as a rival to upriver Oregon City, who apparently named it for Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The population of Milwaukie is approximately 22,000 people.

Clackamus County is one of the fastest growing in the nation and our state, experiencing a 15 percent growth in the past ten years. Milwaukie is part of the North Clackamas Area, which has approximately 5,000 businesses. Major commercial business centers are located in the Clackamas Town Center and the Milwaukie Industrial Area along Highway 224 contains 300 businesses.

Recreational activities is always a source of excitement for Milwaukie's residents. Activites include whitewater kayaking on the Clackamas River, or just fishing, hiking or mountain biking in one of the more than 100 parks in Clackamas County. Access to the Willamette River waterfront is available via the Jefferson Street boat ramp and Elk Rock Island. The city also has a variety of public parks and the state-of-the-art North Clackamas Aquatics Park.
