Situated along the banks of the Willamette and Clackamas Rivers, Oregon City is the county seat of Clackamas County, Oregon. The city is located approximately 13 miles south of Portland. Oregon City holds the distinction of being the first city in the United States incorporated west of the Mississippi River. The city has a population of approximately 27,000 people.

Established by Dr. John McLoughlin in 1829 to take advantage of the power of Willamette Falls on the Willamette River to run a lumber mill. Oregon City was the capital of the Oregon Territory from its establishment in 1848 until 1851, and was the destination for those wanting to file land claims after traveling the Oregon Trail.

A mecca for American history buffs, Oregon City provides plenty of attractions for a glimpse to its rich past including the Stevens Crawford Museum, Clackamas County Museum of History, the Museum of the Oregon Territory, and the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.
