Situated on Tunungwant Creek in northern Pennsylvania near the New York state border, Bradford is part of McKean County. The estimated population of Bradford is 9,700 people.

A blend of the new and old characterizes the charming character of this city. It is unclear of the origins of Bradford’s name. Some believe that the city was named after former U.S. attorney general, William Bradford, while others believe that it was named after the home of an early prominent settler, John F. Melvin. Whatever the case may be, Bradford has its place in history as being the birthplace and headquarters of Zippo Manufacturing Company, creators of the popular Zippo lighters.

The Zippo Manufacturing Company is one of the largest area employers. Other prominent businesses include the collectible knife manufacturer, W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery, Co., Inc., and the American Refinery Group. The Bradford Area School District, the Federal Correctional Institute, Bradford Regional Medical Center Beacon, and Light Behavioral Health Systems are also top employers in the area.
