Butler, Pennsylvania is a small town located approximately 30 miles north of Pittsburgh. It is the second largest town in the region and is situated at the crossroads of over six major highways. Butler is a very important transportation stop for goods moving west from the eastern seaboard. To the west, Cleaveland, Ohio is only a few hours away.

The city's population in 2000 was estimated at 15,000 people with a 1000-strong female surplus. The town has a distinctly maternal feel to it as a result.

Despite the excess of women, Butler sports a crime rate that is significantly higher than the national average. Not many of the crimes are violent, luckily. Most are related to property theft of cars or burgularies in homes.
