Latrobe is a city located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,994 (9265 in 1990). It is located near the scenic Chestnut Ridge in Pennsylvania, southeast of Pittsburgh. Latrobe was incorporated as a borough in 1854, and as a city in 1999.
Among its claims to fame, Latrobe is the home of the Rolling Rock Brewery, Saint Vincent College, and Arnold Palmer. It was the childhood home of Fred Rogers (of "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood"). It is also claimed that the first professional football game was played in Latrobe, and that the first banana split was made there. Both claims are challenged by other towns.
