Incorporated as a village in 1830, Nanticoke was chartered by the Pennsylvania state legislature as a borough on January 31, 1874. At one time, much of the east coast of the United States was the land of the Nentego Indians, who influenced the culture and society of other nearby peoples.

Located on the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the mining community of Nanticoke has a small-town atmosphere with a great quality of life.
