Edinburg Real Estate Information Edinburg has been an All-America City three times, in 1968, 1995, and 2000. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Southern Texas, right along the border with Mexico. Over the last ten years, its population has swelled from 30,000 to 52,000, an unprecendented doubling in size for a small Texan border town. To get an idea of how fast this city is growing, consider that in 1996 there were 251 new buildings at an average cost of $57,000, while in 2003 856 buildings were created at an average cost of $70,000.
Being so close to the border, you can expect a heavy Tex-Mex feel. Over 88% of all residents are Hispanic. There are great traditions of Mexican culture here that you can experience just by walking around.
Within a few hours drive, you can even visit Monterrey, Corpus Christie, and San Antonio. Great beaches on the east cost of sotuerh Texas are also available for those sneaky weekend getaways.
There's even the University of Texas-Pan American campus located right inside the city. It has a full-time enrollment of 10,000 students and employs a large number of residents.
One thing to watch out for: Edinburg has a crime rate that is double the national average. In 2002, there was a one in ten chance per resident of experiencing a mild to major form of crime.
