Welcome to the “Wheatheart of the Nation”, otherwise known as the City of Perryton. Located in the gas and mineral-rich northeast Texas Panhandle, Perryton is part of Ochiltree County, where it also serves as county seat. The population of Perryton is approximately 8,000 people.

This economically important part of the state is known for its high productivity, reflecting the strong work ethic that characterizes Perryton’s residents. The city’s nickname represents the fact that Ochiltree was once the leading wheat producer in the nation, and that most of the country’s wheat production passes through Perryton’s rails. Also, Perryton and surrounding areas was the site of many gas and oil field booms during the last century. Today, Perryton remains a valuable city with a prosperous economy. It is the commercial and retail trade hub of the Northeast Texas High Plains, which also serves the neighboring counties in Oklahoma.

There is so much to do and see in and around Perryton that you can stay active if you choose to. Such attractions include Museum of the Plains, Lake Fryer, and Wolf Creek County Park. Interestingly, Perryton was also the site of the “Buried City”, a huge archeological discovery that has assisted in piecing together early man history on the continent.
