Wichita Falls Real Estate Information With a town lot sale, the City of Wichita Falls was born on September 27th, 1882. The arrival of the Ft. Worth & Denver railroad line transformed Wichita Falls from a loose collection of shanties to a thriving market center.
The railroad enabled ranchers to ship their cattle to Ft. Worth and extended the farmers' ability to market their products from local to national outlets. By 1910, Frank Kell and Joseph Kemp organized and built five rail lines, linking Wichita Falls with markets in the Northwest and Northeast, the West and the Southwest.
In 1918, oil was discovered in Burkburnett and sparked oil exploration throughout Northern Texas. Populations of both Burkburnett and Wichita Falls swelled as businesses and towns sprang up overnight.
Oil was king in the 1920's, but cotton was the major cash crop for farmers. Area expansion in the mid-1930's brought the Municipal Airport and Hardin Junior College, which later expanded to become Midwestern State University.
Also, Amelia Earhart also has something to do with this place but I’m not completely sure what that is. I guess it will remain a mystery. Just like the mistery of her disapearance...maybe she's in Wichita Falls?
