Colonial Heights

Colonial Heights was initially incorporated as a town in 1926. It became a city in 1948 and its current charter as a fully independent city was granted in 1960. The City is located in central Virginia, approximately 25 miles south of Richmond, and it is considered part of the Richmond-Petersburg Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Colonial Heights covers a land area of about 8 square miles. It is bounded on the north, west and east by Chesterfield County and on the south by the City of Petersburg. The Cities of Colonial Heights, Petersburg and Hopewell make up what is commonly referred to as the Tri-Cities area.

A great place to raise a family as the city provides general governmental services for its citizens including police and fire protection, parks and recreation, libraries/culture, health and social services, and maintenance of streets and highways. Other services provided by the City, which receive partial funding from the State, include public education in grades kindergarten through twelve and certain technical, vocational and special education, mental health assistance, agricultural services, and judicial activities.
