Harrisonburg Real Estate Information Become part of the rich tradition and exciting future of Harrisonburg, Virginia! A strong community built on hope and promise and family values, this once-small burg has become a major part of Virginia and is a respected town in its own right.
The settlement of Harrisonburg was a part of the southwest expansion of Colonial America. The City's first family, the Harrisons, were late seventeenth-century English immigrants who entered the continent by way of New York. In the third generation, the Harrisons grew restless; they abandoned the relatively settled conditions of the coast for the unknown promises of the advancing frontier. Enchanted by the beauty and richness of the great valley of the Shenandoah River, they settled in its heartland in 1737. When Thomas Harrison (1704-1785) built his little bluestone house on what is today Bruce Street, the town had already been established in the heart and will of the Harrison family.
Today, Harrisonburg is known as the “city of the first class”. In Harrisonburg, you can expect first-class service, first-class hospitality, a first-class economy, and first-class people who have made this city into a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
