Real Estate Petersburg - VA
Petersburg Real Estate Information

The city of Petersburg has been the site of many important events in American history. Playing an instrumental role in both the War of Independence and the Civil War, this quiet Virginian city mixes pristine historic structures with modern amenities to create one of Virginia's most liveable cities.

According to the 2000 census, Petersburg has a total population of 33,740. This independent city is also one of the country's oldest cities. Tracing back its roots to the former Fort Henry that was established on the southern bank of the Appomattox River in 1645, Petersburg is best known for being the site of the Battle of Petersburg in 1781. This battle took place during the War of Independence and was part of the British army's attempt to regain control of Virginia.

Due to its colorful history, it is not surprising to learn that Petersburg has a thriving tourist industry. However, its convenient location along the eastern seabord halfway between New York and Florida ensures that Petersburg is an economic hub. The center of the Appomattox Basin regional economy, Petersburg is one of the most prosperous cities in the Old Dominion State.

Although Petersbug is a major American tourist site, it continues to be one of the best cities to live in the country. With its excellent school system, safe neighbourhoods, and spirited community, Petersburg has been sited as one of the most exciting cities to live in all of Virginia.
