The town's population boomed during World War 2 when Boeing built a factory in Renton to produce the B-29 bomber. The factory has continued to operate since then, and still produces 737 and 757 aircraft. Boeing remains the largest employer in Renton.
Renton's 2004 City-wide survey says that 75% its residents rate Renton as an excellent or very good place to live; 93% of respondents feel safe in Renton; and 63% feel their tax dollars are well spent in the City of Renton.
