As you drive past the town of Wheeling in West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle Region, heading south about 10 miles, you will come across some curious sights. More than a thousand years ago, Indigenous tribes of America constructed an impressive Indian burial mound that lasted until it was discovered by European settlers. Those settlers named the community Moundsville after the Mammoth Indian Burial Mounds found here. Curiously, the Indian Burial Mounds is located adjacent (and below) Moundsville’s other top attraction – the Moundsville State Penitentiary, known as one of the “most haunted places in America”.

Located along the western banks of the Ohio River, the community of Wheeling is part of Marshall County. With a population of approximately 10,000 people, Wheeling is a community with a comforting home-town feel. Moundsville boasts good solid schools offering quality education, an expanding business environment, and wonderful and spacious public parks and recreational facilities. It is indeed a fine place to live and a variety of housing options exists along the communities charming tree-lined streets.

But be warned, other than its two main attraction, Moundsville is like your typical American town – healthy economy, family-oriented, caring community, and strong civic pride.
