When people think of the historic American Mid-Atlantic, they usually think of states like New York or Pennsylvania. Usually West Virginia doesn't pop up in their minds. However, cities like Wheeling in the Mountain State are among the most historic and unique cities in the country.

Located on the Ohio River in northern West Virginia is Wheeling, an industrial city that has the distinctionof being the first state capital of the Mountain State. According to the 2000 census, Wheeling has a total population of 31,419. The county seat of Ohio County is known for its beautiful historic structures. One such structure is the Wheeling Suspension Bridge, the first bridge that would span across the Ohio River and is now a registered National Historical Landmark.

Additionally, Wheeling is well known for the weekly country music show, Jamboree USA that takes place at Wheeling's Capitol Music Hall. This popular show is broadcast through North America and is one of the many things that Wheeling residents take great pride in.

However, Wheeling isn't all just about tourism. Rather, Wheeling is renowned for its excellent school system that includes approximately 40 public schools. Meanwhile, there are numerous educational institutions in Wheeling that are acclaimed such as: Wheeling Jesuit College, West Virginia Northern Community College, Mount de Chantal Academy, West Liberty State College, and Bethany College.
