Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity in Mexico

Former U.S. President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jimmy Carter will join thousands of Habitat for Humanity volunteers in Mexico to help build 150 homes in Puebla and Veracruz during October 24-29. This is the 21st annual Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy Carter Work Project.

President and Mrs. Carter have been Habitat for Humanity's most famous volunteers through the years, said Paul Leonard, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity's Jimmy Carter Work Project 2004 will bring together 4,000 Mexican and international volunteers, including corporations, churches, civic groups and individuals to join the former U.S. president in building simple, decent homes in partnership with low-income families.

The Jimmy Carter Work Project is Habitat for Humanity International's signature yearly event since 1984. President Carter has hosted this event in such diverse places like New York City, the Philippines, Hungary, South Korea and South Africa.

Habitat for Humanity International, founded in the United States in 1976, works in 100 countries around the world and stresses local leadership in building affordable housing and revitalizing communities. Habitat for Humanity partners with low-income families who help build their own home and also pay back a zero-interest, no-profit mortgage.
