Mt. St. Helens has been attracting people for many years now, as the place where Americans witnessed earth’s prehistoric fury unleash itself on the area. Today, people are heading back there in hopes that they can witness a repeat performance of these events.
However, when they arrive they usually end up taking in the beauty of the National Monument to Mount S. Helens and the quaint city that shares its name. This has led to a modest increase in real estate values in the area.
There are many recreational opportunities in the area, including camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and mountain biking, as well as five informative visitors centers. Of course, there is also the town of St. Helens.
The town of St. Helens is an affable mix of urban and rural, old and new, residential and industry. With close proximity to metro Portland, there is no lack of big city conveniences as well as adding to the cultural and social amenities. Well established neighborhoods feature tree-lined sidewalks and an impressive collection of architectural styles of old while new, carefully laid developments sport today's eclectic styles with open interiors and low maintenance yards.
