Getting the house ready

A house that looks good on the outside will sell faster and for more money than the identical house next door that looks unkempt. All Realtors’ appreciate the value of a polished looking house and the idea that it imparts on prospective buyers: if it looks good on the outside its probably well kept on the inside.

You should always spend time on making the house look good and spending some money to fix certain parts of the house is a good idea. What is not a good idea is spending lots of money making your house look good. A buyer might like the new garage door you’ve installed, but will probably not pay you for it.

When it comes to spending money on your house, in order to sell it, stick to the idea of spending as much time as you can but little money. Focus on the minor, inexpensive things like new doorknobs for the kitchen, or something similar. Getting a Realtor to go through what buyers look for may help you out.

Part of the touch-up process, for getting that sparkling home, is fixing both the outside and inside, of your property. On the inside, focus on cleaning every room, dusting furniture, painting odd coloured walls and shampooing carpets and other items to remove nasty odors.

On the outside of the house take a look at the lawn. If the lawn needs trimming mow it. Planting flowers can brighten up the house and don’t forget simple things that can help you spruce up your house; such as cleaning the guttering and painting the fence that white colour it was when you initially bought the property. All of these things can help you sell your property faster and for more money.
