How long have you been in business - Everything Real Estate

How long have you been in business?

Ever heard the old saying, “Choosing a real estate agent is one of the most important decisions of your life?” Well, it’s true. A good real estate can make the difference between merely selling your home, and getting the best possible deal for your home. Remember, a real estate agent should be working for you, so you want to make sure this person is qualified. This is why you should always interview at least 2 or 3 agents before deciding on the one best qualified to represent you.

There are many important things to consider when choosing a real estate agent: do you like this person? Feel comfortable with them? And, most importantly, trust them? However, you want more than just a nice person as a realtor. You want someone who understands the real estate industry inside out—and who has experience.

That’s why one of your first questions during your interview should be, “How long have you been in the business of selling houses?” In the real estate industry, like in all industries, there are certain tricks of the trade that only time can teach. Things like how to identify potential buyers, how to market a home, and how to negotiate the best possible deal are all aspects of real estate that the realtor learns and improves with experience. A realtor who has years of experience in the field under his or her belt may have a certain edge over others in the industry.

On the other hand, a realtor who is just starting out may not have as much experience as some of his or her competitors, but may have the drive, enthusiasm and energy typical of people just starting out in an industry. He or she may be eager to prove him or herself, and your home might be his or her key to success—and top priority. Perhaps you’d rather work with someone who has a fresh perspective. The choice is yours. For this reason, it’s especially important to interview prospective agents and decide what matters most to you.
